Project Engineer II

Position Description:
MERIT Controls is seeking a highly motivated, diligent individual for the position of Project Engineer I to grow our industry leading SCADA, Controls, and Data Analytics platform for renewable energy including solar PV, Energy Storage and Wind.
Qualified candidates possess strong communication skills, troubleshooting skills, and technical knowledge across multiple disciplines and project phases to safely, effectively, and efficiently bring a utility scale power plant online. A well organized, responsive, agile individual that can operate independently with overall guidance is desired. This position will report to the Director of PMO.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support project execution from a technical standpoint by leading weekly commissioning meetings, reviewing engineering design packages against project deliverables, and working with the customer to complete and close out deliverables to reach project closeout.
- Ensure customer technical and performance project requirements are met or exceeded
- Work closely with customers, internal and external teams to oversee and support power plant commissioning, achieving Site Acceptance, and meeting all contractual obligations for assigned
utility scale projects
- Support troubleshooting tier I and tier II SCADA, controls, and network issues
- Provide a feedback loop to the BD and engineering teams relating to ongoing commissioning
struggles and ISO/utility requirements.
- Lead commissioning efforts and related project meetings post equipment delivery to ensure
efficient and timely project completion
- Ensure all pre-commissioning checklists, commissioning tasks lists, and close-out documentation is complete and accurate
- Interact with customers in a timely fashion for support on projects that are currently assigned, and support Services Organization as needed on prior projects, maintaining a high level of customer
satisfaction with all stakeholders
- Provide detailed resolutions to service tickets to support and grow knowledge database
- Provide support for other technical functions such as SCADA, network, controls, and infrastructure as needed
- Work closely with the Project Management and Service teams to deliver projects on time and on budget
- Adhere to Merit Controls’ technical standardization documentation
- Work closely with the Engineering team to deploy scalable and supportable controls, SCADA, and network solutions
- Work with project management to report project status, risks, and mitigation measures
- Mentor and coach junior associates to grow organizational skills and expertise
- Encourage creativity in developing new solutions
- Good communications skills both oral and written
- Proven problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Full Time Position
Travel: up to 25%
Preferred Position Requirements:
- 8+ years of relevant technical or engineering experience (experience working within renewable energy including industrial or utility scale PV solar, BESS or Wind desired), or similar technical experience with industrial networks, data collection, databases, programming & scripting
- 2+ years of Renewable Site Project Engineering, concentrated around site commissioning, is preferred.
- Advanced understanding/knowledge and experience in controls engineering techniques and practices
- Good understanding/knowledge of PLC and RTAC programming, specifically structured text (IEC61131), ladder logic, and function block diagram
- Understanding of industry standard Communications (Modbus, OPC-UA/DA, DNP-3) • Experience with SCADA platforms, Inductive Automation Ignition and Wonderware a plus • Understanding of electrical one-line schematics
- Good understanding of power systems
- Experience with basic PV solar and storage monitoring functions and designs a plus (technical experience in related fields will be considered)
- Project Management experience a plus
Education:
- Degree in Engineering related field i.e. Electrical, Computer Science, Mechanical; Bachelors’ degree in related fields a plus
