Business Development Manager

Location: Remote

Position Description: 

MERIT Controls is seeking a highly motivated Business Development Manager within our Sales Team to grow our organization and become an industry-leading SCADA and Controls platform provider for renewable energy, including solar PV, Energy Storage, and Wind.  

Qualified candidates possess strong communication skills combined with technical knowledge to facilitate multiple project-level phases. A well-organized, agile individual that can operate with a degree of autonomy with overall guidance is desired. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Direct sales of SCADA, PPC, and network solutions 
  • Build an indirect sales channel/partner network with the EPCs 
  • Drive sales to meet the revenue target 
  • Develop key accounts and build relationships with customers 
  • Collaborate with proposal team to respond to RFP that is responsive to customer and delivers winning proposal 
  • Work with client to establish a strategic account planning process and agree upon performance  objectives 
  • Generate and advance leads to ultimately close sales with utilities and IPP/developers

Understand customer industry and business needs and offer unique and innovative solutions Ongoing feedback to support product requirements and technology roadmap 

  • Represent company interests at all industry conferences, trade shows, and other related sales  activities 

Full-Time Position 

Travel: up to 25% 

Preferred Position Requirements: 


  • Min. 5-6 Years of professional experience in sales and marketing. 
  • Expertise in building a qualified sales pipeline and managing customer development Consultative and client-focused demeanor 
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards 
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills 
  • Self-motivated, ability to think strategically while working simultaneously with highly detailed  information on a daily basis 
  • Previous experience with PV, Wind, and/or Energy Storage industry 
  • Support corporate strategy and develop go-to-market strategy for fast-growing market

Understanding of renewable energy industry channels and channels that serve this market


  • A Master’s degree is preferred; a major in a STEM-related field, preferably in electrical engineering or a technical degree is a plus

    • Ability to communicate to stakeholders and executive staff
  • Analytical Skills:
    • Demonstrated experience with navigating complex sales cycles and negotiations in closing  large contracts
    • Demonstrated understanding of distributed energy resources (DERs) such as solar, wind,  and/or battery energy storage
  • Communication Skills:
    • Strong presentation and writing skills; must be able to communicate across multiple regions and language barriers.
    • Professional composure, credibility, and judgment necessary to gain the respect and  confidence of all stakeholders and customers
  • Customer Engagement Skills:
    • Ability to engage and communicate with customers at all organizational levels
    • Proficient use of all Microsoft Office suite programs

Physical Demands & Working Conditions: 

  • Sitting/Standing/Flexibility: Ability to stand and sit for 8 or more hours when in an office  environment 
  • Speech/Reading: Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently and deliver a variety of  instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form 
  • Lifting: Ability to lift items weighing up to 25 pounds 
  • Vision/Hearing: Ability to understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram,  or schedule form 
  • Safety: Ability to understand and communicate safety precautions when necessary
