Merit Controls Hires Modeling Expert to Enhance Security and Reliability for Customers

Houston, Texas, December 8, 2020 – Merit Controls, the leading provider of grid integration products and services for utility-scale applications, has hired Sachin Soni as Manager of Grid Integration Engineering and Compliance. In his new role, Soni will supervise and grow the company’s engineering and power plant controls offerings. His experience in compliance and modeling analysis will enhance Merit Controls’ ability to offer secure, reliable, compliant and streamlined solutions for customers.

Power system modeling is an important aspect of grid integration, ensuring projects meet reliability and security standards set by The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). Seeing how plant controls and modeling go hand-in-hand, Merit Controls offers a differentiated, streamlined approach to integration and compliance.

Starting from pre-development phase and working through commercial operation, Merit offers various technical studies to help customers hit key milestones, make critical financial decisions based on model evaluations, mitigate technical challenges in project design and remain compliant with NERC directives. With inverter and power plant controls being two critical components of plant modeling, Merit’s in-house Dynamic Modeling services and partnerships with inverter vendors like Sungrow allow customers to access a multitude of plant controls products and modeling services all under one roof.

Soni‘s ample modeling and compliance experience will only enhance this offering. Soni previously worked for a major solar developer and manufacturer, as well as a leading power engineering consulting firm. He also currently contributes to NERC on a subcommittee, working group and task force. Being on the forefront of developing NERC standards makes Soni ideal to lead and perform NERC compliance and modeling analysis at Merit Controls.

“Understanding how to meet current and future NERC standards puts asset owners at an advantage to ensure efficient compliance with regulatory guidelines,” said Scott Rand, Managing Director of Merit Controls. “We look forward to the key role Sachin will play in leading our team of skilled engineers, as well as enhancing our suite of grid integration services. His expertise will further establish Merit as a leader in the power industry, both in terms of our controls business and as an end-to-end consulting service provider.”

“I am excited to join the seasoned team of renewable energy leaders at Merit Controls and contribute to the successful completion of our projects,” said Soni. “I look forward to using my experience to further develop and strengthen the company’s modeling services to improve the customer experience. Our modeling expertise, coupled with an outstanding controls track record, offer our customers an unparalleled resource for generation expansion and seamless asset management.”
