Merit Controls Strengthens Modeling and Engineering Teams

New Hires Enhance Merit Controls’ Leading Project Simulation Capabilities

Merit Controls provides exceptional NERC and ISO compliant modeling services to mitigate risk and ensure an efficient path to initial grid integration for its developer and EPC partners.

Durga Prasad Mohapatra joins Merit Controls’ team of modeling experts as Lead Grid Interconnection Specialist. With a background at First Solar and most recently serving as a senior consultant at DNV GL, Mohapatra is well versed in navigating and educating customers through ISO interconnection processes.

“We are proud to have Durga working on transmission planning and generation interconnection modeling — one of our most important niche service areas,” remarked Sachin Soni, Manager of Grid Integration Engineering and Compliance at Merit Controls. “Durga will allow us to further our superior modeling capabilities, enabling grid integration to facilitate resiliency and promote the continued advancement of renewables.”

Mohapatra will work out of the Merit’s Houston, Texas office. He is looking forward to joining the Merit Controls team.

“I believe my electrical engineering capacities, software skills and deep knowledge of the interconnection process, combined with Merit’s premier technology, will ensure safe, seamless and compliant grid integration that meets the most stringent requirements and maximizes revenue for our customers,” Mohapatra said.

Cody Brown will also join Merit as a Senior Controls Engineer. Brown will bring his previous experience developing SCADA systems for the oil and gas sector to renewable energy projects for Merit Controls.

“Cody will be a strong addition to our team, assisting with project execution and providing excellent customer support,” Nick Milam, Merit Controls’ Director of Operational Technology said. “Often times, the significance of SCADA and control systems are understated. With Cody on board, our team can deploy and commission SCADA systems based on shifting project schedules and meet testing requirements that hamstring so many projects at the finish line. Cody will work with our team to deliver quality SCADA systems that communicate site performance, enabling real-time insights on power plant compliance and productivity.”

Cody will work out of Merit’s Houston, Texas office. He is embracing the opportunity to use his skills to further clean energy development.

“The Merit Controls team harvest their deep knowledge of traditional utility-scale generation to bring more renewables onto the grid, all while working within the existing grid infrastructure,” Brown said. “I admire this team of power industry veterans, and look forward to following their lead, using my skills to achieve our shared vision of a resilient, emissions-free future.”
